The Beach
Clean Up
On the 8th
of March, at 9:00am, at Okahu bay, a group of six children from room 9 came
together to clean up the beach in order to save our marine life. Our oceans are,
therefore, able to stay healthy, and remain a beautiful part of our planet.
A member of
Kelly Tarlton, Debbie explained why we were doing this project. After the motivational talk, she handed out
gloves and black bags.
We found
lots more rubbish than we expected such as bracelets, lighters, Styrofoam,
plastic bags, bottle caps, and a lot more man-made objects that may prove
harmful to sea life.
By the end
of the day, our group had found bags full of man-made rubbish. The most
disappointing part of the day was that we only went half way down the beach! Think
of all the trash on the rest of the beach. It just shows the lack of human responsibility
towards the marine life that access this waste yard to find food. However, their
bodies are not designed to digest such substances and plastic and Styrofoam should
never be eaten by any living thing.
We would
like to thank the participants that gave up their weekend to help us save the
beach. It was a memorable experience!
Students,
their parents and teachers - Georgia, Adrian, Mykie, Jayden, Connor, Liam, Mrs
Watson, Minnie (the dog), Miss Lim, Mr Jay Naicker, Ms Davies-Zwarts, and Mr Dene
Green helped us clean up the beach.
